Katemcey reopened in a new location, but I believe it's still near Mason.
San Angelo has free public land but it's about 3hrs roughly. Twin Buttes is pretty nice and challenging.

North Padre National Seashore is a lot closer than South Padre and, imo, a lot more fun.
Correct info re Katemcy

Last time we were at North Padre they shut down a portion because of migration of turtles, crabs or some other beach living creature.

That's great news about San Angelo. I hunt in that area, so I'm there a few times a year. That's awesome.

Personal experience at Hidden Falls is that it's an AMAZING park. Lots to do. Tons of land. Just overall alot of fun.

I've been to Hidden Falls, which is beautiful. I've also been to north Padre Island.

Hidden Falls looks like a lot of fun. I'll book a camping trip as soon as my lift and tires are on.
