That being said, I'm in the outskirts of the city, so I have well water.
That adds a lot to my power bill.
But compared to Bummer, we have "slightly" cheaper power in NC, and my avg power bill is about 160$ for 2300sqft. But I like AC, and have lots of computers, and other power hungry things.
2400 sq. ft. / for May (in So. Cal., with extremely cool temperatures and no need for A/C) was $56 for water, $26 for natural gas and $164 for electricity. This will double or triple as the hotter months arrive.
I'm taking classes over the summer, one of my projects I'm choosing to do is a study of utility prices and creating a map showing the current prices across the Country.
Please post your city/state, square footage of house and what your utility bill was last month.
It would be even more helpful if you could put how much your electricity was and how much your water was.
I live in Peoria, AZ and last months power bill was 212 that is normal usage it will climb to about 350 during july..
My wife opted for a level pay plan, I'll check later. Also, when I built my house I went for 6" exterior walls in order to have extra insulation over the more common 4" exterior walls, so I tend to spend a little less in utilities overall. I'll try to remember to post specific numbers. Also, to make your analysis more complicated, not only does electric usage vary by season, but my local utility charges a different rate by season:
Quote:
Summer (June 1 through September 30)
9.99 ? / kWh for all kWh
Winter (October 1 through May 31)
9.22 ? / kWh for the first 100 kWh
8.00 ? / kWh for the next 900 kWh
5.35 ? / kWh for all additional kWh
I live in East Texas. Last month's electric was $157 for about 1900 square feet. Actual rate is $.105 per KwHr., but the PCRF (Power Cost Recovery Rate) has been a negative and brings it down to $.10 per KwHr.
COOP water (no sewage or garbage) is high at about $40 last month and probably $60-80 this month.
