Definitely country. The fewer people the better. I'm the type where the city is an ok place to visit or shop at a few times a year but a terrible place to live. I consider a city to be 10,000 or more. Grew up near a town of 2,000 which was plenty big for me.
I have lived in both. I am in the city, again, now and I really do miss the country.
I'm back and forth with it. I like being able to walk to work if I so choose. But I don't like seeing unsociable people on that walk. Where I'm from everyone waves and says hello, at minimum.
I lived in the "city" of St. Louis for 9 yrs as a youngster, then the "county" of St. Louis for 2 years, then 16 yrs on 3 acres of wooded land in the country. I'm now living in the city again and honestly I hate every aspect of it other than the convenience of how close I am to work and local shopping. But as soon as I possibly can, I'll be buying plenty of land and getting the hell out of the city. Not to be a bitch fest but the public in general tend to annoy me. The terrible drivers of St. Louis, the constant noise, etc. just isn't my cup of tea.
I definitely miss falling asleep to the sound of nature, pissing on whatever tree's the closest, and the privacy the open land can provide amongst MANY other things. The better half and I have to decided to start traveling the country to check out other places to live other than this crime ridden city of St. Louis. And once we pick our spot, I'll be picking up as much land as I possibly can!
Isn't it the American dream to own your own piece of this land? I think so!
