Funny how time flies by, and we think "It can't be that old, is it"
Interesting story of my life today.
I never got much sleep last night, and have been slow all day.
Eventually i got all the paper work done, calls and emails returned, quotes sent out, payroll taken care of etc.
I had to go do a quick personal errand, then head to the airport for a charter.
Its the kind of charter i love, a family just wanting a nice sight seeing flight.
What great people they were, and such a pleasure to talk to.
They had no real destination in mind, so i just showed them some cool stuff, and got to fly them around.
I had 4 passengers, 2 adults, and 2 kids, but only the Dad had ever been in a small plane before, and the kids never in a plane period.
But i need to back up my story a bit.
As I was getting ready to go, I thought, I am not picking up anything large, and driving alone, so will take my old corvette. Its my summer, occasional use car.
But i had just driven it yesterday, and it ran perfectly.
Well today I go out to start it and nothing..........nope not even a click.
The battery is totally dead.
Weird, I came home in the dark and know all the lights got turned off, and it has no battery drain, i can leave it for 3 months and go out and it fires up just fine.
Hmmmmmmmm, so I pop the hood, and the terminals are tight.
I grab my volt meter, and it has about 8.9 volts, yup its dead.
So i quickly undo the terminals and hold down, and pull the battery out.
And what do I see, but the sticker from the day I bought it.
I remember very clearly the day I had to buy it, I was out with my friend, and went to leave the restaurant we had lunch at, and it was dead.
I got a jump, and drove straight to the battery warehouse, and had to borrow the tools to swap it out in their parking lot.
What i forgot was how long its been.
The sticker is there showing the date.
May 7th, .................................................. ..........02
Damn, is it really 9 years already, seems not too long ago.
In the glove box i then find the receipt from that day, and yes, it has been just over 9 years.
I get the series and brand off the battery, and add 1 more stop to my outing.
Jump in my old truck and off I go.
Yes I know 9 years is a good long life for a battery.
So I go to the same place, and buy the same brand, no point in changing what works well.
I told the guy my story, and he laughed...........says "you must be charmed, anything over 5 years and a battery is living on borrowed time"
I walk out a happy customer, and throw the battery on the passenger side floor of my truck.
And off to the airport I go.
Tomorrow I will put the new battery in the vette.
So tell me, what is the longest you ever got out of a car battery?

I buy junk and drive it into the ground so the 5 years on my van's battery plus whatever the former owner added is probably my record. May I ask the brand?

For sure, sorry I forgot to include it in my first post.
It was an Interstate brand.
And it gets a new Interstate installed by me tomorrow.

In my pickups I usually get 4 or 5 years.
In my boat, i average 2 or 3 years.
Motorbikes, and quads 2 or 3 years.
Motorhome I usually get 4 or 5 years.
So just over 9 years in my vette is amazing to me...........the old gal is 40 years old now.
Its been a great car.
